NAA Capitol Conference
March 9 - 12, 2014
Washington, DC

NAA's Capitol Conference is the apartment industry's opportunity each year to tell Congress how its actions impact NAA's 63,000 members.
The 2014 schedule is packed with educational sessions, expert speakers on policy and politics, a briefing on the issues and a new lunchtime event with members of Congress on Lobby Day.    And for the first time, the schedule has been compacted to allow you to only attend what you want - only NAA governance activities, only advocacy activities  or only the issues briefing and Lobby Day -- but don't let that stop you from attending all of them! This is a big change from previous years that should save time and money for conference participants.

Conference kick-off speakers will be Charlie Cook, editor and publisher of The Cook Political Report and a political analyst for the National Journal Group, and Stuart Rothenberg, editor and publisher of the Rothenberg Political Report and columnist for Roll Call.  The NAA Capitol Conference will prepare you to carry your message on our major industry issues as an informed, effective, confident advocate.  Registration is free and now open.

2014 Vendor Spotlights

Call for 2014 Vendor Spotlights

What is the Vendor Spotlight?
The Vendor Spotlight is a unique marketing opportunity offered by the Charleston Apartment Association that allows vendors to speak about their company in front of a captive audience of industry professionals during the monthly Dinner Meetings and special events when available.

How it Works
During the monthly dinner meetings, the vendor is given the opportunity to talk about their company for up to 10 minutes in front of a captive membership audience. In addition to speaking about the capabilities of your company, the vendor is encouraged to put marketing materials, literature and other promotional items throughout the meeting room or on tables to maximize the opportunity the Vendor Spotlight offers.

The Benefits
Vendor Spotlight is a unique promotional opportunity and a great way to get your company name out to the membership and let them know why they should do business with you.

Details to Participate
  • Interested vendors are asked to confirm via email including a company logo in jpeg format to info@charlestonapartmentassociation.com.
  • Vendor spotlight opportunities are available for one vendor at each of the six dinner meetings at a cost of $275 per vendor.
  • Interested vendors are encouraged to respond at the earliest opportunity.  After the first 6 vendors sign-up a wait list will be created.
  • Deadline:  January 3, 2014

November Legislative Pulse

JOINT LEGISLATIVE PROGRAM NEWS FROM NAA
New White Paper Outlining Key Copyright and Music Licensing Principles Now Available

NMHC has released a NAA and NMHC members-only white paper to provide background on music licensing principles for apartment companies.  Performing rights organizations (PROs) have contacted a number of NAA/NMHC members regarding music in apartment community common areas.   The law for music licensing is complex and whether a license may be needed depends on specific facts including an area's openness to the public, square footage, the media used and the number and/or size of television screens and speakers, among other property-specific factors.

Commissioned by NMHC, the white paper, by Cydney A. Tune, senior counsel at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, provides basic information about key copyright and music licensing principles and a framework to help apartment companies consider how those principles may apply to a particular community. The paper also addresses issues related to public and semi-public spaces, performance licenses, sources of music, and equipment and devices for audio-only and audiovisual use. In addition, the paper includes a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section that answers some common questions from apartment firms.

Download the white paper here. (Find the white paper under Articles and Reports.)
