A proposal is coming before City Council that would require all
landlords to apply for an inspection permit before a property can be
rented. Once an inspection is completed and approved a release will be
sent to the power company.

Healthy Rental Housing Act of 2015
The
bill would provide remedies for tenants of residential rental
properties with mold that materially affects the health or safety of the
tenant, and would add definitions to the Residential Landlord Tenant
Act for 'essential services', 'mold remediation', 'security deposit',
and 'visible evidence of mold'. Additionally, the bill would require
written disclosure of visible evidence of mold in areas readily
accessible within the interior of the dwelling unit, and would require
tenants to use reasonable efforts to maintain the premises in a
condition appropriate to prevent the accumulation of moisture and the
growth of mold.
Grassroots Effort to Save Census Funding Needs You
As
Congress continues to debate the federal budget for Fiscal Year 2016,
funding of the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) is
in jeopardy. The ACS is important to multifamily because it helps in
estimating the industry's economic impact and provides the latest
relevant data. Now, we think you can help us by adding a grassroots
touch.

along with a broad coalition continue to urge Congress to fund this
important survey. To join us in expressing support, please send your own
letter, or use our letter (see below), addressed to the House
Subcommittee with jurisdiction over the issue. Note that our letter
includes copies to the committee's chairman and ranking member.
We
encourage letters of support this month because related budget
negotiations are expected to take place in May. As always don't forget
to send a copy of your letter to NAA/NMHC so we can also share the
information with the Senate once they begin to take action.
